ANNOUNCEMENT: CAT Engine Change

Columbia Industries is making a required engine change from 4.4 to 3.6 L CAT Engine.

Phasing out Tier IV to Tier V.

Caterpillar has made a corporate decision to phase out Tier IV engines due to emission requirements changing in Europe. The initial engine offered will be the C3.6, which will be an intermediary compatible engine until the Tier V design is completely rolled out (2025-2026 est.). This change is necessary due to Caterpillar phasing out the Tier IV in 2024. This engine meets all the US EPA Tier 4 final non-road emission standards, and is also designed to meet the EU Stage V non-road emission standards. Every CAT engine is manufactured to stringent quality standards to assure customer satisfaction. These new engines will begin appearing in our HPUs in late August/early September Tippers. Some other important items to note:

  • No 2024 cost impacts/increases expected with the new design
  • All footprint, enclosure design and connection points will remain the same
  • The current supply chain has enough engines to support our current production levels for the remainder of the year
  • Engines will be supplied to us from Thompson Machinery, who will also continue to support aftermarket and service for Tier IV engines.

We are gathering information to provide all our customers with part numbers for consumables.

Updates will continue to be provided as we approach the actual release date.
